About Coby
I’ve been where you are.
I’m Coby Vandertoolen — husband, father, coach, and a man who spent years fighting the same habits you’re fighting now.

My story
Two years clean wasn’t the answer
I was 11 the first time I saw pornography. For the next seven years I fought it off and on — winning for a while, then losing again.
At 18 I left to serve a two-year LDS mission in Southern Georgia. For those two years I didn’t view it once. I thought it was behind me. Six months after I came home, I fell right back in.
The struggle lasted until shortly before my first daughter was born. And it cost me more than I realized at the time — my confidence in dating, in sports, in sales, in business and in my marriage. It wasn’t just a habit. It shaped who I believed I was.
I’d proved I could white-knuckle it for two straight years. I’d also proved that it didn’t last. Real change came when I stopped fighting the behavior and started changing who I was: my emotional state, my subconscious patterns, my identity, and my relationship with God.
That’s what I teach now. Not how to resist harder — how to become someone who doesn’t need to.

Who I am today
Husband. Father. Competitor.
I’ve been married to my wife, Sami, since 2020, and we have two kids, Berkley and Jace. I was born and raised in South Jordan, Utah, and now live in St. George — where you’ll usually find me on the golf course when I’m not with my family.
My faith is at the center of how I coach. I believe Jesus Christ is the source behind all change, and that belief shapes everything I teach.
I love anything physically hard. In high school I was a state champion wrestler, a two-time state finalist, a national qualifier and team captain. Today I compete in HYROX. Hard things are where identity gets built.
